Turning trash into trend, one swimsuit at a time.

It all starts with a plastic bottle. Not the kind you lovingly hand to a recycling bin (though, kudos if you do), but the ones tossed aside, swept into waterways, and destined for a future bobbing around the ocean floor. These bottles, once a symbol of convenience, become something a lot more meaningful at Sandbar, your new favourite swimwear.

♻️ Step 1: Collection

The journey begins with plastic waste collection — specifically, post-consumer plastic bottles. These are gathered from recycling facilities, coastal clean-ups, and landfills where they’d otherwise break down into microplastics. Not exactly poolside chic.

🧵 Step 2: Transformation

Once sorted and sterilised (no ocean gunk in our trunks, thanks), the bottles are shredded into flakes. These flakes are then melted down and re-spun into yarn. The result? REPREVE®, a high-performance fabric made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. It's strong, soft, and resistant to chlorine, saltwater, and UV rays. Basically, the superhero of sustainable fabrics.

👙 Step 3: Design

Here’s where we get creative. Our prints are designed to celebrate nature, fun, and family, think hummingbirds, palms, embroidered turtles, and matching options for dads, mums, kids, and even babies. Yes, your baby can now rock a swimsuit made from yesterday’s lemonade bottle. Iconic.

🧵 Step 4: Production

Our manufacturing partners bring the designs to life using eco-conscious processes. And yes, we’ve tested these suits with real families, crawling, splashing, digging, diving. If they can handle a toddler tantrum at the beach, they can handle anything.

🌊 Step 5: The Impact

For every single item sold, we fund the removal of 1 kilo of plastic from the ocean. That’s roughly 100 plastic bottles pulled from the sea.  So your swimwear doesn’t just look good, it does good. And yes, your account tracks the kilos you’ve helped remove so your impact is made visible.

Why It Matters

Eco-friendly isn’t just a label. It’s the lifeblood of how we operate. We don’t just want you to buy swimwear; we want you to feel part of something bigger. A movement. A mindset. A wave of change, starting at the shoreline.

So next time you pack your bag for the beach, remember: that bikini or pair of shorts you're wearing was once floating in the ocean. Now it’s floating on it!
